Jesper Parnevik global golf star wins the Sun Microsystems Par 3 Challenge
at Four Seasons Resort Aviara in dramatic fashion.
The Event
Getting down to golf's essence PAR-3 PLAY. The 18 hole course at
Aviara Golf Club was modified to create a championship course of all par 3s. Temporary
greens were set up for the 10 par 4s and four par 5s, all holes were played in normal
sequence from 152 to 200 yards, requiring all of the players to focus on pin point
accuracy. The field of eight players represented the PGA, LPGA and the Senior PGA
all competing for a first prize of $ 120,000 and a minimum of $ 50,000 per player.
In addition every hole represented a chance for the professionals to win a $1 million
bonus prize for making a hole in one. As stated by John Lioacono, vice president of
Brand Marketing " Sun didn't want to just place its name on a golf tournament we
wanted to be associated with a unique golf challenge." We are committed to this event
becoming one of the premier professional events."
