Resent Press ?

A feature article was written on me in the North County Journal three weeks ago
because I was the first Black to go to State.

Last week I was featured on a local sports newscast at 5:00 and 9:00,.

Why did you start playing ?

I was a Freshman when I started watching Tiger play and that peaked my interest so
I started watching more Golf on TV. In my Sophomore year one of the Wrestlers on
our team dared me to try out for the Golf team so I did. Of course I didn't make
the cut but I learned a lot. Getting cut actually turned out to be a good thing
because after that I was determined to make the team the following year. I got a
job as a Cart Attendant at Eagle Springs so that I could golf for free. I usually
only worked 2 days a week but I was able to play golf and use the driving range 7
days a week. That summer I would play at least 18 holes a day and some days I
would play 27 and other 36. That really helped my game and in my Junior year I not
only made the Golf team but was named Team Captain.

Where do you practice?

My home golf course is Eagle Springs in St. Louis Missouri. All of the employees
at Eagle Springs have been very supportive and have really helped me. Also, due to
the cold winters that we experience in St.Louis I installed a practice area in my
father's garage that includes an area for driving practice and a putting green. I
also have a driving range near my house that has heated Tee's that is great for
practice in the winter.

Who are you hero's in golf and outside golf ?

Tiger Woods of course has been a great influence on me. Not only is he a great
golfer but he is also a great role model.

Outside of Golf my father is my role model. He is a hard worker and has good
values which he has passed on to me. My father as well as my mother have always
supported me and made sure that I had all of the tools that I needed to pursue my
various interests.

Do your parents or other family members play golf ?

No, my parents don't golf but my Uncle plays and he has really helped me with my
game. During my Junior year I played almost every Saturday morning with my uncle
and his friends at a local Black owned course. Playing with those guys really
helped me along because they could all play and they would give me pointers.

What's you grade point average?

Well, lets not talk about that, I didn't do as well as I could have. I really
didn't apply myself during my Freshman year and that really hurt my average.

What do you want to study in college?

Computer Science

Have you taken the SAT and if so your score.

No, I took the ACT and scored an 18.

Have you sent letters or email to the black colleges listed on the website ?

No, I have sent in paperwork and am waiting to hear from the Minority Scholarship
Foundation. I should hear back from them and hopefully I will be able to get a
scholarship.

Have you sent letters to other colleges ?

Yes, I sent letters to some of the college golf coaches that I met last year at
Mike Holder's (SO) Golf Camp. One of the problems that I have had is that I have
only been playing golf 2 1/2 years and don't have a national ranking. Most of the
coaches that I have talked to are looking for guys that have been ranked for
several years. I am leaning towards attending a small school my first year and
then going to a larger school for my final 3 years.

Schedule for the remainder of the year/summer ?

Optimist International Qualifier Missouri Junior Amateur's
Oklahoma State Golf Camp
Meet Tiger Woods on June 29th (thanks to T Masters and Mr. Gerald Jones)
Robbie McEver's Memorial Tournament
5 Gateway PGA Tournaments
