July 1998

The month of June was exciting and filled with loads of great golf. Western States Golf Association the premier African American Golf group on the West Coast held its annual Championship in San Diego. Every African American golfer I ran into here in San Diego was excited that the event was being held here. I made an effort to make sure every African American golfer -knew that the group was here in town. It presented quite the networking opportunity and from the feed back I received over the 4^th of July weekend it was fruitful for many. The WSGA enjoyed it so much San Diego will host the event again next year.

During the Month of June I had the opportunity to play in Baltimore at Carroll Park a Baltimore Municipal Course the course which has an African American Head Pro - Willie Smith. Although only twelve holes it has some very challenging holes for its 3214 yard length. It was also a great networking opportunity as I played with a Storeowner and Optometrist, golf is really the game of networking. Its amazing how many business relationships I have formed as a result of golfing. Here in San Diego last week I met two businessmen that may result in the development of a business relationship as well.

On the 4^th of July I had the opportunity to play with Elliott Lawrence of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau at the Chula Vista Golf Course in Bonita, what a great time. Mr. Lawrence was instrumental in helping Western States bring its event here, a pat on the back to Elliott for a job well done.

We are looking to expand our features on Eastern and Southern African American Golf, so please let us know about your group or organization.
