Since September 1996 Gil Morgan has hounded Senior PGA Tour leaderboards week in and week out. The Oklahoman's stunning six wins in '97 led to a second-place finish on the money list at $2,160,562. In July of his year, he outdueled rival. Hale Irwin at the Senior Players Championship, his second major win of the year along with The Tradition. He also captured the MasterCard Championship and the LG Championship titles-and won the. four-man Senior Slam for good measure. In early August, he played a bogey-free tournament., only the ninth in Senior PGA Tour history to win the Utah Showdown in Park City His $1,514,91.5 for the year (through the Utah event) lifts Morgan into 23rd position for career winnings ($3,832,816) on the senior tour. On the PGA Tour,Morgan won the L.A. Open twice en route to $5.2 million in career earnings. His strong iron play made him a threat to win the inaugural Par 3 Challenge.
