Members of the National Black Golf Hall of Fame Junior Golf Team pose with founder and director Harold Dunovant.

Dunovant, a former PGA professional and president of the Black Golf Hall of Fame, watched as some of his top pupils strutted their stuff in a tournament that the National Black Golf Hall of Fame/MAWS Junior Golf Program hosted at Winston Lake Golf Course last week.

Because the players were entered in their first-ever tournament, it only consisted of nine holes. However, Dunovant said he was proud of what the players accomplished. They all were members of his summer camp, that is co-sponsored by the Black Golf Hall of Fame and the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem.

Dean Dodd took first place in the tournament with a score of 40. Shame Reid and Chris Sansbery tied for second at 42. Brian Billins and Rayshawn Reid tied for third at 45. "I was very proud of the way they played and performed out there on the course," Dunovant said. "This was the first tournament that these kids have ever played in." Dunovant said the tournament was the perfect way to end one of the program's most successful summer camps.
